Thermally Modified Timber Decking & Cladding
Thermally Modified Timber.
The process of thermally modifying timber results in a product that performs very differently from conventionally treated timber - it is dynamically more stable, is highly resistant to rot, fungal and insect attack and even when used as decking, should see your deck lasting 25 years or more.
You can see samples of cladding, decking and 3D walling at our Cedar show site.
Inspired by a Japanese tradition of burning or charring wood to protect the wood from rot, insect attack and the effects of the sun, the use of modern production processes adds further to these qualities.
You can see an example of this charred cladding fitted to the side of the oak framed barn alongside other examples of cladding using thermally modified timber. This special process takes timber in its sawn form through a high temperature kilning process.
The method removes most of the natural resins, sugars and other impurities found in timber and changes the cell structure - resulting in a more stable product that delivers a product less prone to movement found in more traditionally processed timber.
